Vintage Boeing by Carrera 5700 Aviator Sunglasses
1986 witnessed a remarkable collaboration with the aeronautics giant Boeing Aviation and the legendary eyewear manufactory Carrera-Optyl. Carrera was commissioned with the request to develop an eyewear collection of equal reputational footing and caliber of Boeing Aviation. Quality and standards, imagination of design creativity all endowed in creating a collection inherent in what Boeing is reputed. Enhanced and advanced, Carrera created eyewear in the fashion of the Aviator with distinction!
1988/1989, Boeing debuts the collection with reverence and sophistication, all in the fashion of the Aviator style. Employing varying metal compositions in titanium, aluminum, steel and alloys accompanied by creative mechanical features, Boeing desired a collection representative of their esteemed company of engineering and design notoriety. To represent that note, such design features as the '3-C' nosepads- 70 degree rotational ability for enhanced, universal comfort. As well as, adjustable shock-absorbing rubber hinges which each frame was accompanied with a small wrench to adjust. The personality of Boeing by Carrera gained such international recognition that their development and distribution became international, contrary to original intentions.
Boeing by Carrera retains its reverence in the annals of vintage eyewear as a bellwether in a unique period of eyewear history. This period was known for its cross-industry collaborations, a few of which would be at the behest of Carrera.
