Vintage Chanel 01453 Sunglasses
With the prowess and brilliance of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the 1990s hailed supreme for Chanel. Maintaining the classic and elegant ideals of the fashion house, and merging it into the parlance of an ascending fashion industry; all to retain the position at the forefront of forward-fashion mobility. With heritage, the line continued to use some of the more specific elements that Chanel employed, typically like quilting and chains which would segue into its eyewear. And, as a boutique label, Chanel was primarily sold in their stores and in limited runs.
1988 saw the debut launch of the eyewear line with manufacturing in both France and Italy. Early Luxottica is cited as developing the line's designs yet the exclusivity of a Luxottica agreement wasn't bestowed until the late 1990s, which took control to expand the line into a mega-production with international distribution.
Considered 'foundational', not unlike the 01450, the 01453 was, also released as a Summer season runway piece in 1991. Becoming iconic as one of the more recognizable Chanel pieces in a relatively oversized design with rounded eye shape, thick temples emblazoned with the notable Chanel 'C's.
